Book Recommendations

Rather than book recommendations,

it is more correct to say I'm recommending the author, J.A.Jance. But we'll hone in on one book in particular: Clawback, an Ali Reynolds novel.

If you haven't discovered this prolific author as yet, this may be a great find for readers who enjoy a good mystery and an admirable main character, often a strong woman.

Although I've read only 4 of Jance's books, three of them Joanna Brady mysteries, this one verifies the author's style. She is a very good fiction writer, period, who knows how to write a  mystery in such a way to hold your interest. She chooses her beloved Arizona as the backdrop for her stories, and her knowledge of the state and the terrain, plus good character development, is a winning combination.

No author is at the top of their game all the time - something I've said many times. But in my opinion Jance presents believable characters without crossing the line into crass, graphic, and distasteful. Earthy might be a good term.

Clawback is a recent book, and a later one in this series. It's no surprise that modern technology is utilized to the hilt to expose a Ponzi scam that wipes out Ali Reynold's parents' savings.  It may also help exonerate her father, who shows up just in time to be suspected as responsible for the homocide of two people he considered his friends - before he believes they were part of the swindle.

Jance's books are almost always featured in local libraries and used bookstores. You might want to do what I didn't; start the series at the beginning.

  1. I have seen the name over the years, especially in the days when I actually shopped local bookstores regularly. But, I always passed them up for something safe, from a writer I already read because I just didn't know much about the author. So, now I have a good recommendation and I guess it's time to try.

    1. Why not? Especially since you don't have to purchase to give one of her series a try.
It's always nice to make friends aware of potential good reads.
